What is the danger of using a computer that gets no updates for its OS?

What is the danger of using a computer that gets no updates for its OS?

If I continue using my Windows XP even after they stop giving updates including security updates what is the danger? As long as I have a good antivirus software I use Avira and a good firewall software I use comodo will I be OK? My Windows XP computers are doing just fine for what I do and I dont like Microsoft forcing new OS on me to make more money.

really? i mean its ok but hackers are gona get into ur mainframe. ur security software is actually bad. i have ur IP adress right now i could destroy ur computer right now. i sugest you get nortan 360. and windows 7. hope i hellped :

if you have lot of job or you expect more you can update os.dont worry about virus because of u have good antivirus.but you must update vantivirus softwares tooo.

Hi I am also using XP and dont want to change my os. I thinkXp is good. So nothing will happend. Scan for virus daily and Delete unwanted files. All the Best

First no one is forcing anything on you this is part of their regular release cycle. And you state yourself a capitalist but object to MS trying to make money? Anyway down to reality. Updates have already stopped in terms of service packs. You will continue to get security patches and individual fixes until 2012 when full support stops. By then you will have hit at least one piece of software or hardware or decide to buy a new machine that will not longer work with Windows 7. Only reason XP has lasted this long is because most of the business world didnt convert to Vista. But XP is getting old and antiquated. It contains so many of the weaknesses that hackers are still taking advantage of. Dont be fooled XP will not remain forever and about the time that XP support stops Windows 8 will be officially into its beta/release cycle at which time no one will be supporting XP.

Hi My friend has a laptop running vista and if he were to just get a copy of windows 7 would he be able to use it without needing any drivers? He lost all the cds that came with it so he doesnt know if anythings needed. For example would he need to have drivers of the touch pad or will that be available through windows update or just included in windows 7? His laptop is a dell dual core processor t2330 I believer 1.6 GHz with 2 GHz ddr2 RAM forgot the speed 300gb hardrive dont know the type and not sure about graphics card. I barely use my laptop so i dont know about the extra drivers required for it. But i remember for my pc that i didnt need to install anything extra. any help would be much appreciated : thanks nuttiutti

I am trying to use windows movie maker to make a movie with my Sony Digital 8 Camcorder dcrtrv260. I cant find a driver for it I have downloaded the Vista Fix Sony picture Utility Picture Package and nothing works ahhhhh I have been at this for hours im sure you know how that feels. I am using a digital video / USB cable. the dv is in the camera. Do I need an ieee 1394 cable? PLEASE HELP.......THANKS EVERYONE

According to the Sony site here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/supportinfo.pl?templateinfoid544 Sony decided not to support the the USB streaming feature on Windows Vista or Windows 7. Thanks for nothing Sony. You will HAVE to get the ilink/firewire cable and have a firewire port on your computer to get your video off of it. I hate Sony.

Can the Pentax ME and the Pentax Km use the same lenses?

I have a Pentax ME camera with several lenses but its old so id like to buy a different one. Can i use the same lenses for the Pentax Km or would i have to buy more? Thanks.

The ME used the pentax K mount which is mechanically the same as the pentax DSLR mount in that your lens will mount however there may not be any aperture coupling so you will need to use manual mode and focus before setting the aperture before taking your picture. The Pentax DSLRs have a menu function so you can tell the camera you are using manual lenses and it will do some processing tweaks to account for them. Do bear in mind that the pentax DSLRs have a sensor that is 1.5x smaller than a frame of film so this in effect makes lenses behave as if they are 1.5x the focal length great for telephoto not so great for wide angle. You will also experience a bit of a jump between the quality of the ME super full frame pentaprism and the smaller pentamirror of the Km this will make manual focusing more difficult unfortunately. So the lenses should work but it may not be a particularly enjoyable or fluid experience.

Yes no problem. That is the stronghold of Pentax the ability to use its older lenses easily. Of course you will have to buy more. What with the large supply of older lenses in flea markets and garage sales not to mention eBay. Pentax continues to churn out new models for the new recruits but for us oldtimers there is nothing sweeter than getting old glass for a bargain

Yes Pentax has been very good about keeping lenses compatible through the years. In fact I believe those older kmount lenses will even work with the new Pentax DSLR cameras. Mark
