you like my backyard poem?
A fat tabby chases but never too far a green sprinkler spits on the kale and the chard the sun slants its last down the river below lighting cascades of cottonwood snow evening bird sings his sad evening song the heads of white clover rise over green lawn a big pile of prunings are piled in the pit till pyromaniac October gets the whole mess of it lit the garden it grows the sky remains blue as I sit her writing enjoying the view.

Cute poem Duncan anything with cats in it is a winner with me however people enjoy poetry because of the allusion look up alludeevoked by the poem. A poem is like a shorthand version of a story. The poets trick is to let the reader experience the emotion and imagery of the writer with as few words as possible by using metaphor and simile then the reader is free to use his own imagery to fill in the blanks. Not all poems need to rhyme and by using free verse the readers mind goes to his own thoughts and feelings and magnifies what you the poet are trying to express. Your love of nature is evident and animals always make people smile so keep writing about nature. You must live in a beautiful place.
