Is is typical that doctors have to order a walking cast for a patient and what can I do until it comes?

I have a bruised growth plate and bone in my foot and my doctor wanted to put me in a ankle height walking cast. He said that he didnt have any in his office and that I would need to order one. Ive ordered it and they told me it would probably be about a week before it came in. I currently have my foot wrapped in an ace bandage and Ive been taking advil and using ice to try to relieve the pain. Is there anything else I can do to help relieve the pain?

O.K. Im not a dr. but a biomed tech and something sounds a little off with what you just wrote. What kind of pain are you having that they said a bruised growth plate? And what is a growth plate and how did he determine that it was bruised? I know that it wasnt because he saw it black and blue and I also know bones dont bruise. I was wondering what all lead up to this because I have a feeling that it isn t anything like you have been told. Please email me some info and Ill tell you what I think it might be and how to take care of it.

personally I would have contacted another medical supply company that could get it to you TODAY cal the doc ask him how to handle this for a week btw your DOC should have ordered it it WOULD have gotten to you sooner when you talk to the doc you can also tell him that he forgot your crutches...
